Davao Cyber Expo 2008

The organizers of this year’s Davao Cyber Expo invited me to give a talk on WordPress, which I delivered last 5 July 2008 at the NCCC Mall. I’d like to thank Christopher Cubos for having given me this opportunity to continue my advocacy of promoting the use of WordPress here in Davao.

Meet-up with Cebuano bloggers

I’m really happy to have gotten together with Cebuano bloggers last Sunday. Since I was going to be in Cebu for the weekend, I’d asked Winston to try and get in touch with some bloggers and invite them to an informal meet-up. There were about 15 or so of us at Bo’s Coffee on Osmeña, including Max Limpag and Wilson Ng.

It was Manny Pacquiao’s fight against Diaz, and it had been raining, but the Cebu-based bloggers (some turned out to be originally from Zamboanga, Iligan, Dumaguete…) made time for the get-together. Max and the others said it was the first time that bloggers were in one place at one time. Read on»

What is the driving force behind all these blogging-related activities that I’ve been organizing since last year? Honestly, it’s all about content generation. Christian on Bankerohan See, it’s not easy to keep writing and updating one’s blog (let alone multiple blogs, for some of us who maintain more than one or two). So why not create bloggable happenings?

Very recently — although this involved only one blogger and two amateur photographers — we did a photo shoot of the newly-constructed Bankerohan Bridge. And this type of activity is something I’d like to see more of (especially now that the camera bug has bitten me…).

Since last year, the Mindanao Bloggers (MB) group has been getting more and more attention as a direct result of our various activities. We’ve been conducting seminars on blogging, running food tours, and organizing events such as the Mindanao Bloggers Summit and the recent bloggers party.

Today, Goodyear Philippines had a media roundtable where bloggers in particular were invited. I wasn’t able to attend this morning, but was fortunately able to sit down with their PR people. It was very fulfilling to know that they appreciate what the bloggers here in Davao can do for their company in terms of advertising mileage and product awareness.

WordCamp developments

Back in Davao.

My trip to Manila for the benefit of WordCamp Philippines went much better than I’d expected. I was able to accomplish what I went there for, and quite a bit more.

The sponsors showed their all-out support for WordCamp, and I’m happy to report that i.PH has officially signified their intent to be a Co-Presentor, joining MyImage Media. Other sponsors are being lined up, especially for lunch and snacks during the event. I’m hoping to sign them up as soon as possible.

Tagum bloggers +20

The blogging seminar we conducted in Tagum City the other day was a success. The 20 participants were all total newbies, but they were quite easy to instruct on the workings of personal publishing. Ria did an introduction and overview of the world of blogging — I believe she did a good job in demystifying the blog for them.

This is the third time that I’ve been invited to conduct a seminar-workshop on blogging by the Department of Trade & Industry. This time it’s for DTI - Tagum City. Apparently, one of the participants in the 2nd seminar is from Davao del Norte Province, so now they want their own.

As before, I’ve invited Ria to partner with me in conducting the seminar in Tagum. So tomorrow early morning we’re going on a one-hour bus ride to the north.

Blog Oh! Blog Blog Oh! Blog, a site that’s dedicated to WordPress, is running a contest for all bloggers around the whole wide world. This über-sexy CMS just turned 5 yesterday, and B.O.B. is running this online contest in its honor.

Not using WordPress? Jai (the blogger behind B.O.B.) didn’t mention anything about this contest being exclusive to WP users. So just jump in and, who knows, you might win a theme! And that’s gonna be the start of your own love affair with WordPress.

Too much blogging?

You gotta love this one –

Too Much Blogging = Tumor

I must say, sometimes I do spend way too much time on my blogs. That’s five blogs that I take care of personally, a few community blogs, my father’s, and a couple of blogs that I maintain for my friends. But it’s fun! ;)
