Scuba diving
I’m finally getting myself certified for scuba diving!
Actually, I’ve gone diving several times already, two occasions of which I blogged about here and here. But the very first time was at Pearl Farm Beach Resort sometime in the early 90s. I was there for the weekend with friends and I met the resort’s dive master then, Lawin Abueva. He offered to include me in the diving lessons for resort staff since he had only one student at that time; I immediately accepted.
Since I’m now involved in an environmental advocacy towards marine conservation in the Philippines, I thought it best to get myself a scuba license forthwith. My SDI dive instructor, John Neri of the Carabao Dive Center, is having me go through the basics of open-water diving — in fact, I had my pool session today. Tomorrow, off we go to Talikud Island for my first check-out dive!
Once I’m certified, I’m going to dedicate a lot of time in exploring and finding out more about Davao Gulf, that great body of water encompassing several cities and towns in Southeastern Mindanao. It is a bio-diverse ecosystem that is a sight to behold underwater, and deserves the protection of its inhabitants and visitors.

Yay, love what you are doing Blogs.
There are only three things I want to do after I retire. One is scuba diving …
Keep us posted on your advocacy
Hey Dens! Long time no see! Teka… bakit after you retire pa? Bakit di na lang ngayon? ;)
Well, I hope you get certified! And, people like you who gives time for the conservation of our marine, animals and planet should be considered as heroes! You are doing all these without expecting for anything in return. May the Lord bless you more! =)
Thanks for your kind words, JoMi! I will certainly get certified and continue what I can do to help protect Mother Nature.
Sarap siguro mag-scuba dive noh….kaso I’m scared of the water and can’t even swim…nyahhh!
Hi Bing! You should overcome your fear of the water, ‘coz you’re missing out on a lot! Try snorkeling na lang muna, para mas relaxed. :)

Just outside Sta. Ana Wharf, beside Magsaysay Park. We’re leaving early tomorrow, so you’ll have to be at the dive shop before 8am.
That’s one thing I still want to do… scuba diving…I hope I’ll have a chance.
I am from the Lingayen gulf. We can’t enjoy scuba diving here. Aside from we don’t have the facility, the waters won’t allow us for scuba diving. I wish I can go to other places for scuba diving.
