BlogWatch
There’s a new “new media” publication in town — BlogWatch.ph, and I feel very privileged to be a part of it. BlogWatch, which was launched last 24 November in Makati, is a worthy undertaking that aims to provide news and commentary in the proven style of traditional journalism but with the flair of “Web 2.0″. It is being hosted by the Vibal Foundation’s Philippine Online Chronicles.
Led by project editor, Noemi Lardizabal-Dado, who is well known for her Filipino Mom blog, BlogWatch staff writers include Juned Sonido, Dine Racoma, Vince Golangco, Jane Uymatiao, Pierre Galla, Angel Abella, Brian Ong, Fritz Tentativa, Carlo Ople, and others.
My first article for BlogWatch is on the Maguindanao massacre and how mainstream media has covered it thus far. Noemi asked me to write ‘with local flavor,’ so I decided to publish something that I’ve been concerned about for some years now. I hope you’ll read the article, entitled Maguindanao massacre: another blow to Mindanao’s image.
Emphasis is being placed on on-the-spot and breaking-news coverage of the Philippine general elections in 2010. For sure, with the bloggers on the ground, BlogWatch will certainly be able to deliver this.
I have high hopes for this online publication — with the kind of people behind it, and with the solid backing of the Vibal Foundation, I believe it will someday soon become a primary source of news and popular opinion in the country. (It makes me sad, though, that they didn’t use WordPress for the site…)
