WordCamp PH2009 and other events
It’s a truly exhilarating experience after having put together two successful WordCamp Philippines events! The preparations for the second WordCamp in the country, held in Makati City last 19 September, was actually stressing me out to the point that I wasn’t getting my bread-and-butter work done properly the last couple of months. But, with the help of my team and some very supportive sponsors, the conference pulled through just fine this year. Not as big as the first one, but successful by all accounts, nevertheless.
What pleases me the most is the effect organizing WordCamp has had on the consciousness of Filipino bloggers about the Mindanao Bloggers Community and our goals. Since last year, I’ve made it a point to engage the bloggers of Mindanao in the staging of this prestigious international conference. And the more we do it–as well as other high-publicity events–the more Mindanao and her beauty and goodness come to light in the Philippine blogosphere.
Next month, we will be holding the 3rd Mindanao Bloggers Summit, which will be taking place in Cagayan de Oro City. We will have a very special guest with us then, but I am not at liberty to announce who it is just yet… ;) All bloggers are welcome to attend, even if they’re not from Mindanao. Registration is online.
On to other events. I have been invited to the upcoming Consumer Electronics Live! Manila 2009 to be one of four guest speakers who will talk about The Elements of Successful Blogging. CEL2009 will be from 13 to 15 November, and will happen at the World Trade Center Metro Manila. My contribution will be part of a bloggers panel discussion during CEL2009, and will be on 14 November, from 2:00pm. I hope to see you there!
Of course, there’s the Philippine Blog Awards 2009 in October. This year’s unique because, for the first time, regional awards will also be given out to deserving Visayas- and Mindanao-based blogs. The Mindanao regional awards ceremony will be held on the same day as MBS3. Check out this site for updates!
I look forward to being even more active in the Philippine blogosphere, which is to say, in Metro Manila. But my heart will always be in Mindanao, and the objectives of the Mindanao Bloggers Community will always be foremost in my mind.
