In Makati now
I arrived in Makati today, with WordCamp Philippines 2009 organizing teammates, Chattee & Jaime. The two other members of the team, Lyle & Brendel, will be arriving this Friday. The last time I was in the nation’s capital was many months ago, so before diving into work, I spent time with my siblings, Jake & Julienne, her hubby Francis, and my best friend, Vince — all of whom are based in Metro Manila.
We went to North Park for dinner, then had coffee at UCC. The North Park branch in the Makati Golf Club complex is a cozy place with good food, and it was the perfect place for us siblings to catch up. Vince followed us to UCC in Salcedo Village. We don’t have UCC in Davao, so this was a chance for me to enjoy their excellent–although rather exorbitantly-priced–coffee offerings.
I will be staying up to the 22nd of September, a few days after WordCamp, so that I can take a brief breather before I go back to my various projects. Not that I won’t be working while I’m here, though… With the fast Internet connection at the hotel, I don’t think I’ll have any excuse for not answering emails and sending in progress reports. (sigh)
The newly-renovated Jupiter Suites, situated near the corner of Jupiter St. and Makati Ave., has graciously agreed to sponsor the WordCamp organizers’ accommodations. I believe I’m going to like it here — comfy, clean, and the location is very ideal, with all kinds of establishments surrounding the hotel.
I’m looking forward to seeing and experiencing Metro Manila again, after so long. While most people complain about the pollution, traffic, etc., I actually rather enjoy my rare excursions into the national capital region. I wrote once that being in Manila gives me a feeling of being recharged, revitalized. I still feel that way.
