DavaoTechJobs.com

I began this site in February 2008, but delayed blogging about DavaoTechJobs.com because I wasn’t quite sure yet how I’d go about presenting it to the world. The objective, however, was clear from the start: to provide a venue for both job seekers and employment providers.

At first, I just used the blog system to post job openings. These were sent in by companies through an online form created with one of my favorite WordPress plugins, called cforms. Potential applicants, as well, could send their résumés via another form.

It worked pretty OK that way. But then, there was very little interactivity. Well, I never really thought a simple blog could do the trick. So now, I’ve decided to use an electronic forum. Filipinos just love forums, as might be seen in hugely popular sites like DavaoSale.com, so why not the same system for DavaoTechJobs.com?

I’m still using WordPress on it, of course. But to add to the site’s interactiveness, I’ve also installed a really impressive plugin: Simple:Press Forum. There’s nothing simple about it, if you ask me — it’s so powerful! It operates almost like phpBB or myBB, and has all the functions of those industry-tested software. What’s simple about it is that it’s very easy to install and administer.

Now, companies can post their job vacancies via DavaoTechJobs.com’s Jobs Board. The forum is subdivided into bulletin boards specific to IT jobs. Applicants, on the other hand, can use the forum to post their availability and connect with headhunters.

A paid membership is being considered, at a minimal subscription fee. Paying members will be accorded special privileges, of course: they’ll be able to make sure that their posts are always on top of the boards, they will have the ability to receive private messages via the forum, and others.

More functionality will be added to the site in the near future. Feel free to proceed to the site and take it for a spin!
