I have created another blog, and its purpose is to be an election watchblog. The site is called RP2010.com, or RP Elections 2010, will be where I and a number of co-bloggers from all over the country will write about political issues and events leading up to 10 May 2010.
The blog is open to contributors: authors, as well as bloggers who’ll help us promote the site and realize its objectives. Interested? Please click here to get in touch. I’d like to thank my friend, Ray Rubio, for generously creating the site’s logo.
RP2010.com will be non-partisan. Its main concern is to help ensure clean, honest, fair elections in 2010 by making elections-related issues more widely read about and discussed.
I decided on doing this after attending a 3-day Namfrel conference in Manila last October. The outcome of the summit of newbie and veteran volunteers and leaders was very inspiring, and so I resolved to take on a more active role for 2010. I had been a Namfrel volunteer since 1984 — I was only a kid then — and up to 2007 when my father and I organized the Quick Count in Davao.
Blogging has come of age globally, and there’s no reason why we in the Philippines can’t take advantage of its benefits. I do believe that bloggers can make a difference: I just hope that we can be a positive influence, somehow, over how politics will look like in the year 2010 and beyond.
