Domain buying spree
My techie and blogger friends know this about me: sometimes I go on domain-buying sprees when I’m inebriated. Once, when I checked my GoDaddy account, I saw a domain name I didn’t remember I’d bought! Seriously.
Today I acquired blog1e.com, which I thought I’d use to point to this blog. No, I wasn’t drunk this time — it’s just that, it would really be neat to have a .com for my palayaw. Years ago, when I wasn’t blogging yet, blogie.com was still available according to the whois search. But I didn’t really care about it, because back then, my nickname didn’t really appeal to me all that much. So I let it go.
You can imagine my regret.
To date, I have 48 domains registered with GoDaddy, and several more with other registrars. Most are .com names, and the rest are a smattering of other TLDs. I even have a couple of .asia domains, which I’m not using yet: pinoyrepublic.asia and bimp-eaga.asia.
Anyone have any ideas what I might do with these?
No, I’m not a domain squatter — I actually make it a point to avoid purchasing those that are close to trade names. My purpose in acquiring domain names in advance is to make sure they’re available to me when I already have a need for them. It’s like real estate, but virtual.
I must admit, though, at times the motive behind a few of my domain-buying binges can be rather frivolous. For example, I got foodnography.com after some friends egged me into it. But I don’t see why there should be any shame in that. Besides, I just might find some use for that space later on.
My best ever domain is still AngDabawenyo.com. That’s my #1 favorite. It defines what the site is all about and declares who the owner is right away.

Wohooo… I couldn’t imagine how you’d manage all those domains. I only got 2 domains now and the other is only parked, I’m thinking it’s a waste. huhuhu!

That’s too bad, Beejing. Next time!
Until when will you be in Cebu? How long will the event be? I might still be able to catch up!
@Beejing — Event? It’s not really an event, just a very casual get-together on the 29th. I’ll be in Cebu till the 30th, flying out in the afternoon.
