WordCamp developments

Back in Davao.

My trip to Manila for the benefit of WordCamp Philippines went much better than I’d expected. I was able to accomplish what I went there for, and quite a bit more.

The sponsors showed their all-out support for WordCamp, and I’m happy to report that i.PH has officially signified their intent to be a Co-Presentor, joining MyImage Media. Other sponsors are being lined up, especially for lunch and snacks during the event. I’m hoping to sign them up as soon as possible.

It was also very productive when RedMedia’s Dave Quitoriano and I locked heads to discuss the meatier aspects of the event. We’ve come up with the plan to hold a WordPress plugin development contest, which I’ll announce soon.

There’ll also be a WP theme design contest, which we’ll run before WordCamp. Watch out for that announcement!

I’d like to express my deep gratitude to the College of St. Benilde, especially the School of Management & Information Technology, for the warm reception I got while on my site visit last 5 June. I could feel their enthusiasm and excitement our upcoming WordCamp.

Another new development: the WordCamp after-party. It will be held at mag:net in Serendra. More details on that later!

Last Saturday, Chuckie Dreyfus of WP-Pinoys.com agreed to meet me, although it was at very short notice. Finally, we’ve met in person — Chuckie’s a very nice guy and is obviously passionate about WordPress. I’m so glad that WordPress Pinoys is on board and entirely supportive of WordCamp.

It’s good to be back in Davao, but I look forward to my next trip to Metro Manila for another round of WordCamp organizing arrangements. But before that, I will be in the Queen City and in the City of Golden Friendship for informal get-togethers with bloggers. Hopefully I’ll be able to touch base with a good number of WordPressers in Cebu and Cagayan de Oro.

The Cebu trip will be on 27 June, and I expect to meet up with Cebuano bloggers on the 29th. After Cebu, I plan to hop over to Cagayan de Oro by boat on the 30th. I’ll post more details of these trips in the coming weeks.
