SEO analyzer for everyone
I’d like to share with you a recent discovery I’ve made: Website Grader. It’s one of those finds that brings a smile to the lips of bloggers and webmasters. This online tool will help you analyze your site’s SEO health. While Website Grader works for all websites, it includes reports that are blog-specific.
When using Website Grader, you will input your site’s URL and keywords. Optionally, you may submit your competitor sites’ URLs as well, for comparison. After submission, WG will output an SEO score for your site. (This blog got a 92 out of 100.) Below that will be an exhaustive report on your site’s SEO preparedness.
Thanks to WG, I realized that I wasn’t making full use of my desired keywords in my blog content. I also got tips for fixing the information contained in my site’s Meta tags. (Although search engines do not anymore put much weight on Meta information, it’s still a good practice to properly tag your site with apt keywords and descriptions.)
One interesting thing I found out was that, domain names’ lifespans matter to search engines. WG includes in its report the registration length or age of your domain, and even when it expires. I’ve known for sometime now that a domain’s age matters to SEO. What I didn’t know until my discovery of WG was that, search engines take into account for how long a domain name is registered. According to WG, domain names that are registered for longer periods are considered more stable by search engines.
Another portion of the WG analysis that I appreciated was the search engine / directory submission report. For this blog, WG correctly reported that it’s not yet submitted to DMOZ — it’s not easy to submit a site to dmoz.org, but once your site is listed there, you can expect an improvement in your traffic.
To arrive at the SEO score, WG utilizes website traffic metrics — Google, Alexa, Technorati, etc. — and direct analyses of your site’s content and organization. (Let me just say that I’m really not convinced that Alexa is a very reliable source of site traffic data. But that’s for another article…)
The best way for me to describe Website Grader to you is to ask you to proceed to their site and use their free SEO tool. The data you’ll glean from using this impressive service will most certainly help you in your efforts to promote your own website.
This is not a paid review.
