Write, edit, rewrite!

When I was in high school, I attended a writing seminar for budding journalists (I thought I was going to become a newspaper reporter, as a fallback career). One lesson from that session that still rings clear in my head is this: Write, Edit, Rewrite. Actually, that’s still followed by more editing before the final copy.

Should this apply to blogging?

I believe it should. True, blogging has this free-wheeling essence to it. But this freedom shouldn’t be considered by the blogger as license to not write well. Why do we blog, after all? It’s to send a message, correct? Well, to get people to accept your word, isn’t it necessary to write clearly? If your writing is weak, your readers will not be convinced. And if your writing is replete with spelling and grammatical errors, they could get distracted. Worse: you might send an altogether different message!
