Poll results: Blog platforms

From 7 July to 1 September, this poll on popular blog platforms got 45 total votes — honestly, I would’ve wanted it a bit higher than that number… oh well. Anyway, although I myself currently author / administer 7 sites using WordPress, I was actually expecting Blogspot (Blogger.com) to lead this survey. The reason I say this is, in the two blog directories that I maintain (Davao Blogs Directory & Mindanao Blog Directory), majority of the listed blogs are on Google’s Blogspot service.

Could this perhaps mean that, for this blog, more of my readers are the techie types and the more focused bloggers? In my experience, techies are more inclined towards using WordPress. If this is the case, maybe I should ‘graduate’ from addressing only the beginner-level bloggers and on to the intermediate or advanced level? I wonder if I can pull it off…

    My take on platforms:

    Friendster/multiply for occasional/friends/family-only bloggers
Livehournal - more serious than friendster, posting more frequently but still to a contained group
Blogger - Those who want to try blogging and see what it is but would not want the other features of the social bookmarking sites. Mostly non-techies. And many mainstreamers who are testing the waters.
Wordpress - preferred by techies and those who would like more control of their sites. May 50% are serious bloggers, though many may have been influenced by the serious bloggers who are already using Wordpress.

I agree Blogie, wordpress is for “techies”
Most of those who blog through wordpress likes to turn blogging to the next level. Like customizing the layouts, widgets, and all other plugins. I used to have a blog in blogger/blogspot but I find it boring, I can’t get what I want. : D. Now, with WP I can do anything. :D

Yeah, wordpress is for the “techies”…and those who can afford a self hosted blog. Tried everything from friendster to wordpress and i guess for poor blog newbies (like me) who can’t afford a self hosted site but wanted to experiment with blogging, the new blogger seem malleable enough to suit our needs.

Yes, a lot of people start out with Blogger.com and then move on to self-hosted WordPress — like me. There are, however, seasoned bloggers who stick it out with Blogger — like Janette Toral, who owns digitalfilipino.blogspot.com, w3o.blogspot.com, among others.
