A conversation with Matt: short but sweet
In my position in life, I’ve gotten to rub elbows with a few industry bigwigs and even some celebrities, but I don’t really get gushy or tense around them. So last night was mildly surprising when I found myself rather schoolgirlishly nervous as I waited for my Skype chat with Matt Mullenweg. I’m embarrassed to say I got tongue-tied for a little while when we were talking. But I suppose it’s understandable — Matt’s only the founder of the most awesome blogging platform on the globe. Ok stop! now I’m gushing…
The Usual Suspects (the bad boys behind the bloggers’ bash) had wanted to invite Matt to Davao City for the October Summit, but unfortunately he’s already scheduled to be somewhere else during our event (not at liberty to say where, sorry). Shucks. It would’ve been quite a coup!

My conversation with Matt was brief, but fruitful. I’d really wanted to ask him about WordPress future developments, about WordPress μ and Akismet, and compare notes on barbecue… but I didn’t want to take up the guy’s time (it was 11a.m. in San Francisco when I called). And, so many questions were trying to rush out I just didn’t know what to ask first! I’m glad, though, that I was able to quickly explain to him what the Mindanao Bloggers Summit was all about. That it’s not just a social get-together of bloggers, but also a venue for rallying the power of blogging to improve the image of the island of Mindanao. (Hmmm… I kept saying “island” during our conversation though. Matt might have gotten the notion that Mindanao’s just a few acres of tropical land in the Pacific. I hope not.)
Matt asked about the acceptance level of WordPress out here. I hope I didn’t gush when I said I maintained 7 blogs on WP! Anyway, his query got me thinking: it would be good to do a serious survey on this.
Why was I on Skype with Matt Mullenweg? That, my dear readers, is a surprise!
