‘…Nasa tao ang gawa’

I do not disbelieve that God answers prayers. But it’s been said often enough that He does so in His own time and through His own mysterious ways. To me this implies that, though we pray for something, it still depends on ourselves whether or not we deserve what we’re asking for. In other words, prayer serves but to strengthen our own resolve. God our Father, in His infinite wisdom, shows us the way to attain our goals by our own means.

Last night as I was drifting off to la-la land, this thought came to me out of the blue. It rang so true and clear that I had to write it down fast — that’s why I keep a notebook on my night table.

I was pondering on sin last night, and the fragile nature of man’s resolutions (who here has never broken New Year’s promises?), and… whether or not prayer (in the form of supplication) should be given the premium that many devout believers do.

Prayers of praise and gratitude are another story, of course. Those I consider as songs of the soul.
