Feels GREAT to be Pinoy!
I’ve been tagged again, this time by Aileen. Three things that make me proud to be Filipino:
Filipinos are highly adept in languages. I personally know of a number of Pinoys who can speak at least 4 languages. And a lot of us speak three tongues with ease: Pilipino, our own regional language or dialect, and English. Put a Pinoy in Japan, Saudi Arabia… and he’ll soon be speaking the local language in no time!
Our diversity. Many view our archipelagic nature (geographical and figurative) as a weakness of the Filipino. Personally, I see this as a resource. As much as genetic diversity is important to the entire human race, I believe that the Filipinos’ being so varied will ultimately be our redeeming quality. It is something that we can draw upon, in whatever endeavor. We may find it hard to come together as one nation being Cebuanos, Ilocanos, Boholanos, etc. But on the flip side, our differences are what make for such a rich culture and heritage.
(Dabawenyos, on the other hand, have never been preoccupied with regionalism. We welcome everyone who wants to become a Dabawenyo. Maybe we should try to have a Dabawenyo as President…?)
Family ties. What I find lacking or distorted or even absent in other cultures is the Filipino way of valuing family. It makes us strong and grounded. Yes, some might say that being too coddled by one’s family results in one’s becoming stunted. But I disagree, because it doesn’t appear to be in our culture to spoil children. (I could chase this discussion down further, but I’m just expressing random thoughts right now.) Our families are our support system, our check and balance even. We exemplify the adage, “The family is the basic unit of society.”
According to Aileen, I have to tag 10 friends. And those are: Jon, Lee, Abe, Abaniko, Sarah, Gutierrez, Jap, Dom, Misterhubs, and Ayeza.

Darn. I hate you Blogie! LoL why oh why do you have to tag me?
It’s inevitable this tag game, yes? This is what I get for being too nosey hahaha
By the way, I do agree with your three things. I am learning Arabic now, which I plan to share on the blog one of these days.
Ok, back to tagging. Arggh. I’ll get you next time =)
Hahaha!! If you blog, you get tagged. Fact of life, Jap.
Now, I finally have a topic for my next post. Thanks for the tag Blogie.
Thanks for doing the meme Blogie!
I’m quite happy this is going around. It’s exactly what I said that bloggers should do in iBlog3.
Can I just beat my chest like a caveman and pronounce to the world that I’m really PROUD TO BE FILIPINO?!!!!!
Warm, fuzzy feeling…
