I recently gave someone (unsolicited) advice to go bloghopping before forming opinions about something or other. So, before that advice rebounds to me, I thought I’d do some of my own. It’s amazing how much about a person you can deduce just by rummaging through his personal stuff, right? Well, the same goes for a person’s blogs, I think. That is, if he or she has several blogs.

I started out with those who’d already left comments on my blogs, and members of the Davao Blogs Directory. But, there are very few in Davao who have more than 2 blogs. Those who do have 3 or more blogs are pretty interesting. Some have somewhat predictable lines across their various blogs; some are refreshingly constant in tone and quality; and a few have blogs that are off-tangent from each other entirely, which makes for captivating reading on occasion.

Hmmm… what about mine? I have 5 blogs that I own, one that I take care of as site admin, and one that’s supposed to be a blog network but isn’t moving yet. This one is my “homebase”. My very first one, however, is my I.T. column. My newest one is about health and fitness, which has a completely different voice, I think. My favorite, I have to say, is my Davao City blog. And the one that offers the most challenge is my Japanese-language blog.

Writers have a constant source of stress, and that is in keeping one’s writing fresh. I have felt this often enough: the worst was in 2005 when the stress resulted in writer’s block, which lasted till late 2006(!!). Back then, whenever I tried to write, the words just didn’t come out right. They sounded dull, tasted stale, felt awkward…. My solution to the problem was to blog, and sure enough, the words soon rang like a bell after a spell.

Shifting genres also helped, I suppose. It challenged me and kept me on my toes. But, I wonder, am I able to change my voice or my tone across my different blogs? I was hoping that I could be a lot less formal in my Davao blog; rather business-like at I.T. Talks!; and, well, engaging at Mission: 6-Pack Abs. At times I try to be “modern” or avante-garde at this blog… but I think I need to experiment more on that!
