Huwag nang pakyawin

It was a relief to read the news about Manny Pacquiao‘s withdrawal from the congressional elections. I was already planning to write something rather inflammatory about his political ambitions (or rather, the ambitions of those people behind Manny’s political bid). It’s good that he came to his senses before it was too late.

And his decision to withdraw was a brave one, too, I might add. He apparently is more concerned of his fans’ sentiments than his losing face. As a Filipino, I am proud of Manny Pacquiao, for his accomplishments.

However, the mere decision to run for political office offended me. And it should offend the Filipino people. Just because one is popular (and Manny’s is probably the most recognizable face in the country today)…. Isn’t that downright offensive? If you were a voter, wouldn’t you feel that your intelligence was being insulted? Whoever put the boxer up to this should be ashamed of himself (herself?). Well, obviously that person is already into politics, so no hope of him/her feeling any shame at all.

Kudos to you, Manny, for your brave and wise decision!

I was told once to stick to my strengths, my forte. I think it was a very sound piece of advice.

she will campaign against Manny. She will go down to Gen.San
    to speak in Rep.Antoninos rally(Mannys political rival).Manny
should keep in mind that the mud is just starting to fly.

how the tide does turn in filipino society. but if manny doesn’t shape up, he might just lose face after all. but boxing-wise, let’s hope that’s all he loses!
